Okay enough fooling around. Let me explain a little more about what happened and what it means for you.
Plain and simple, things were broken. Trying to fix things made it worse, and the only solution I could see was to start from scratch. So I backed up our database (Hence the reason all the posts are still here), renamed the old /forums directory to /graveyard, and installed a clean version of IPB 3.0.4 in the newly re-created /forums directory. For the most part everything is working, with a few key exceptions.
Because the installation is fresh, no files were carried over from the previous installation. Only our database was carried over, and that's best described as just one big huge text file. This means all uploaded images like signatures or avatars, and all files attached to posts or PMs, are gone. Buried in the graveyard.
- If you previously had your avatar uploaded to the board, you will need to re-upload it for it to work again.
Any board modifications we had are gone, though at the end there they stopped working anyway. That means the arcade, moods, munjpets, extra skins, are all bones. Don't expect them to be re-installed any time soon, as almost all of them are incompatible with 3.0.4. I found a shoutbox that works though, and installed that since it seems to be the most used mod out of the bunch.
- If there are any modifications you feel you cannot live without, make a suggestion and I'll do my best to find it again.
Some of the setting from 2.3.6 didn't quite transfer with the rest of the database, mostly because of the incompatibility. In particular, custom bb tags are mostly inoperable. However, a lot of the custom bb tags have had their functionality replaced with newer default tags. For example, the new [Media] tag can be used to play mp3 files, and link to youtube videos. Custom emoticons are mostly gone too, except for the few that Robert went dumpster diving for. That will result in a few broken images in older topics, not to mention broken bb code. If it's your post that's broken, you can just edit it yourself to fix it, if you care enough to.
- If there's any particular custom emoticon or bb code you would like, let me know.
For the time being I'm working on getting board email working, but please post any bugs/problems/changes that need to be addressed so we can get things finally running around here again.
Edit: I
finally got the email working with SMTP. While this may seem a minor thing to you, it is a huge deal to me since the mail system has technically NEVER worked how it was supposed to. Before now users with @clubdragon.org email accounts couldn't actually receive mail from the board, since it'd automatically get sent to localhost (IE the server the board is on) instead of gmail (IE the mail server we're actually using). Now that all the mail is going directly to google instead of through localhost first, we shouldn't have any problems at all! Now you can freely use the board to send and receive emails from any other member, without worrying about it not getting through.
With that said, let me know if the email starts getting wonky again.
